Picup Driver Earnings in South Africa

Picup is the only company on this site that publishes a rate card. Here is every rate, and what comes off the top.

Research note Researched and reviewed by the DriverZA editorial team. Facts checked 6 September 2026.

Overview

These rates were in the app on 6 September 2026. Picup adjusts them whenever fuel moves by R1.00 or more, so check before you plan around them.

They are also what arrives before your own costs.

Detail

Two kinds of trip

On-demand is one collection and one delivery. Bucket is several orders collected together and dropped at several addresses. Different rate cards.

On-demand rates

VehicleFirst 5kmPer km after 5km
BikeR32.01R4.20
CarR50.45R5.82
Small vanR85.05R6.09
Large vanR86.94R6.60

The base fee covers everything up to 5km, however short the trip. Picup's example: a bike on a 12km trip earns R32.01 plus 7 x R4.20, so R61.41.

Bucket rates

Each leg is paid per kilometre, higher for the first 10km.

VehicleFirst 10km of a legPer km after
BikeR5.12R3.09
CarR7.72R4.68
Small vanR8.81R5.38
Large vanR10.77R6.61

Then the same amounts whatever you drive:

Each stopR3.00
Each successful deliveryR5.00
EnvelopeR1.00
Small parcelR2.00
Medium parcelR3.00
Large parcelR4.00
Extra large parcelR5.00

Picup's example: a car, four medium parcels, three addresses, 32km, comes to R267.84.

Merged routes

Two trips merged into one route are paid on the optimised distance. You collect once, and the kilometres you are paid for go down.

Failed deliveries and returns

Half the standard rate, capped at R45 for a motorbike, R65 for a car and R85 for a small van.

Taking work below your class

Any vehicle can accept a lower trip mode, paid at the lower rate. A car driver who takes a R32.01 bike trip is paid R32.01.

Payment

Every Tuesday, for the Monday to Sunday before. A public holiday on the Monday or Tuesday delays it, and the money can take 48 hours to reflect.

Some routes wait. A route pays out automatically only if you were within 1km of the waypoint when you started and finished it, and inside the client's delivery window. Everything else waits for finance, usually until the end of the next business day. Quote the route ID, not the order number.

Deductions

Lularides takes 5% of your earnings excluding tips. iThemba takes R5 a week. Picup pays the vendor, and the vendor pays you.

Plus drivers on scheduled work also face slot penalties: R50, then R100, then R150 between Monday and Saturday, and R250 on a Sunday.

What is not in these numbers

Fuel, data, airtime, insurance, servicing, tyres, the DEKRA assessment and Picup gear. Work out what you keep per hour online. A rate card is not an income.
