How DriverZA handles contact details, technical logs, cookies, analytics, local browser storage and your rights under South African privacy law.

This policy covers DriverZA's public website. DriverZA is responsible for the personal information described here. Questions and privacy requests can be sent to [email protected].
Information you provide
You can read guides, compare platforms, use the document checklist and use the eligibility checker without creating an account.
The contact form asks for a topic, your message, your email address and, if you want to give them, your name and the address of the page you are writing about. Your email address is used to reply. Your name is optional, because a correction is worth having whether or not you sign it.
A submitted message is stored in DriverZA's database so we can reply and keep a record of what was corrected and when. A copy is also emailed to the editorial address.
The form has no upload field and cannot accept a file. Please do not paste identity documents, permits, licences, bank statements or other sensitive records into it, or attach them to an email. DriverZA does not need them and cannot assess them.
Eligibility answers and checklist ticks
The eligibility checker asks six questions, including which document you use in South Africa. Your answers are sent once, are not saved anywhere, and are not put in the page address. They are not in your browser history, they are not in the address you would share, and they are not sent to any analytics service. Reloading the results page starts you over, which is the trade-off for keeping them out of the address.
The share button on the results shares the result, meaning the company names and what each one came back as. It does not share your answers.
Checklist ticks are stored in local storage in your own browser. DriverZA does not receive them. You can remove them by clearing this site's browser data.
Keeping the form usable
To stop automated abuse, the contact form includes a hidden field that a person never sees, and DriverZA limits how many messages one visitor can send in an hour. The limit works from a one-way fingerprint of your network address held in temporary storage, which expires by itself. DriverZA does not keep your network address alongside your message.
Technical information
When you open a page, our hosting and security systems handle normal technical information: your IP address, the time, the address you asked for, your browser, the page you came from, and whether the page loaded. We use this to run the site, fix faults and stop abuse.
Analytics and externally loaded resources
DriverZA only loads Google Analytics when an analytics identifier is configured. When it is switched off, no third-party script is loaded at all.
When it is switched on, Google receives usage and device information, and we record five things people do on the site: clicking through to a company's application, finishing the eligibility checker, using the comparison filters, using the WhatsApp share, and using the document checklist.
Those events carry the company's name and nothing else. They never carry an answer you gave the eligibility checker, your document or permit type, your nationality, a search you typed, or any contact detail. That is enforced in the site's code by an allow-list, not by a setting somebody could change by accident.
The site's fonts are served from DriverZA's own servers, not from Google Fonts, so your browser does not contact Google to read a page here.
Why information is used
We use personal information only to run and secure the site, reply to your messages, keep our records accurate, investigate misuse, meet legal duties, and understand how the site is used overall.
We do not sell personal information. We do not use your eligibility answers to make any legal, employment or immigration decision about you.
Advertising and partnerships
DriverZA is open to partnerships and advertising. If that changes what the site loads or collects, this policy will be updated before it happens, and any advertising will be labelled as advertising.
DriverZA does not sell or rent your personal information, and does not pass contact messages to the companies covered on this site. A commercial relationship does not change a recorded requirement: those come from each company's own sources.
Links to other organisations
DriverZA links to platform, government and other source websites. When you open one, that organisation receives your request and its own privacy policy applies. DriverZA does not control what an external site collects.
How long information is kept
We keep personal information only as long as we need it: for the reason we collected it, for our records, for security, to handle a dispute, or because the law requires it. Email, security logs, backups and analytics are kept for different lengths of time. We delete or anonymise information once we no longer need it.
Contact messages are kept while the matter is open and afterwards only as long as we need them to show why a recorded fact was changed. You can ask us to delete your message sooner.
Security
We use access controls and technical measures to protect information. No internet or email system is completely safe. The safest thing you can do is not send us identity, immigration, licence or banking documents.
Your choices and rights
South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) gives you rights over your personal information. Depending on the situation, you can ask whether we hold information about you, ask to see it or correct it, ask us to delete it, object to how we use it, or withdraw consent you gave earlier.
Send a request to [email protected]. We may need enough information to verify that the request concerns you, but we will not ask you to email unnecessary identity documents.
Privacy complaints
Please contact DriverZA first so we can investigate. You may also lodge a POPIA complaint with South Africa's Information Regulator through its eServices portal or email [email protected]. General Regulator enquiries can be sent to [email protected].

Children
DriverZA is not designed to collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so it can be reviewed and deleted where appropriate.
Changes to this policy
This policy may change when DriverZA's services or providers change. The effective date at the top will be updated when material changes are published.
