What is confirmed for Cape Town
Four companies name Cape Town in their own driver material:
- Mr D lists it among the areas it serves.
- Uber names it on its South African driver page.
- Uber Eats has it in the courier city selector.
- Bolt has it on the cities list its driver FAQ points at.
That is as good as coverage gets on this site. Both delivery and passenger work are on offer here.
Takealot, Pingo, Picup, Checkers Sixty60 and inDrive name no cities at all. That is a gap in what they say, not a statement that they are absent. Pingo says it recruits across the whole of South Africa, and Sixty60 operates here.
Where to start in Cape Town
With a motorbike, delivery is the faster road. Uber Eats, Takealot, Mr D, Pingo and Picup all take a bike, and none of them mentions a professional driving permit. Picup runs on-site training in Cape Town, one of only three places it names.
With a car, for passenger work, start the PrDP first and do everything else while you wait. Government says up to 12 weeks. Uber, Bolt and inDrive all run here, and the vehicle also needs an operating licence.
With no vehicle, Pingo's motorbike arrangement is the clearest route into delivery. Uber and Bolt both point at partners that rent cars, which is a standing cost against your earnings.

- Deliver with Uber Eats in South Africa Company page Uber. Read on 6 September 2026 . Carries the accepted identity documents, the accepted licence codes, the DEKRA quote codes, the top box measurements and a 22-entry city selector. Advertises delivery by “car, bike, scooter, or even shoes” but gives requirements only for motorbike and car. Does not mention a PrDP anywhere.
- Drive with Uber in South Africa Company page Uber. Read on 6 September 2026 . Names five cities: Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban. Uber still uses the name Port Elizabeth for Gqeberha. Says you can sign up without a car that meets the vehicle requirements and points at a Vehicle Marketplace of partners. States no minimum age.
