What is confirmed for Johannesburg
Four companies name Johannesburg in their own driver material: Mr D on its driver page, Uber on its driver page, Uber Eats in its courier city selector, and Bolt on the cities list its driver FAQ points at.
One thing to watch. Uber Eats lists Johannesburg and Pretoria as a single entry, so check the city shown in your account before you book an inspection.

Where to start in Johannesburg
Delivery work starts faster. None of the delivery companies here lists a professional driving permit, so the slowest step does not apply.
For passenger work with Uber, Bolt or inDrive, start the PrDP application first and book the vehicle inspection while you wait. Under the amended transport law the vehicle also needs an operating licence, and the regulations call for e-hailing branding and a panic button.
Takealot's onboarding form asked us to choose a work region, and the regions it offered were in the northern suburbs. We are not treating that as a coverage list, because the same three names also appeared in an unrelated part of the form.

Names 23 South African locations. Uses the older names Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown, and lists Garden Route as a region rather than a town.
- Deliver with Uber Eats in South Africa Company page Uber. Read on 6 September 2026 . Carries the accepted identity documents, the accepted licence codes, the DEKRA quote codes, the top box measurements and a 22-entry city selector. Advertises delivery by “car, bike, scooter, or even shoes” but gives requirements only for motorbike and car. Does not mention a PrDP anywhere.
- Drive with Uber in South Africa Company page Uber. Read on 6 September 2026 . Names five cities: Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban. Uber still uses the name Port Elizabeth for Gqeberha. Says you can sign up without a car that meets the vehicle requirements and points at a Vehicle Marketplace of partners. States no minimum age.
